Birangana Sati Sadhani Rajyik Viswavidyalaya commemorated International Women’s Day with a dynamic lineup of events from March 3 to March 9 , 2025, promoting women’s empowerment, health awareness, and gender equality . The celebrations were spearheaded by the Women Support Cell in collaboration with the Department of Political Science and Social Work Studies, supported by the Sports Authority of India, Golaghat.
The events commenced on March 5 with an enlightening session by Dr. Banashree Gogoi, who addressed critical women’s health issues such as menstrual cramps and PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome). Stressing the importance of natural remedies, balanced nutrition, and holistic well-being, she encouraged young women to adopt healthier lifestyles. This was followed by a thought-provoking elocution competition on “Breaking Gender Stereotypes,” where 12 students from various departments delivered compelling speeches.
On March 6 the focus shifted to sports, with enthusiastic participation in the 100m race and long jump competition at Pulibor Higher Secondary Playground. Later, a heated debate on “Patriarchy as the Root Cause of Women and Malnutrition in India” saw participants critically analyzing societal structures.
The grand celebration on March 7 was graced by Vice Chancellor Prof. G. Singaiah, Registrar Dr. Uday Kr. Khanikar, Controller of Examinations Mr. Udayan Boruah, and esteemed writer Mrs. Shantana Sharma. The event, anchored by Prastuti Das, began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, followed by the National and University Anthems, and the felicitation of dignitaries with Phulam Gamusas.
Dr. Antora Borah delivered a compelling speech on women’s empowerment, followed by an evocative poem recitation by Dibyanka Rajkhowa a Sociology student.
Mrs. Shantana Sharma captivated the audience with a powerful address on patriarchy, gender stereotypes, and the importance of financial independence for women. She emphasized that love and respect should define relationships, not caste or societal expectations. A skit performed by Social Work students artistically depicted the struggles women face in everyday life.
The celebration concluded with the prize distribution for winners of the essay, debate, elocution, running, and long jump competitions. The event ended on a high note with a stirring rendition of Axom Sangeet, leaving attendees inspired to champion the cause of gender equality.
