Profile


The department of Assamese in Birangana Sati Sadhani Rajyik Vishwavidyalaya has been established in 2023. The discipline is devoted to disseminate knowledge on literature, language and culture. It aims to explore varied aspects of Assamese literature, language and culture giving special emphasis on regional arenas. A multidisciplinary perspective has been adopted to study literature, language and culture in the light of NEP 2020 and the syllabus will be followed accordingly. The department investigates new areas of studies like Assamology, Indology, Comparative Literature, Translation Studies, Indian Literature, Sociology of Literature etc. where teaching-learning has been conferred drawing approaches from Linguistics, Literary and Cultural Studies. It has identified Digital Ethnography, Intercultural Communication, Heritage Studies, Cultural Icons, Indigenous Knowledge System, Comparative Cultural Studies etc. as the thrust areas of study/research.

The department presently offers PG programme to promote higher education as well as to accelerate research-based knowledge among the students. It is ever ready to facilitate the quest of students-scholars and make them capable to stand in the global platform.

Apart from regular academic courses, the department of Assamese is interested to do some extension activities, outreach programmes etc. through which different communities can be served in terms of their social lives and local knowledge can be incorporated in the academic teaching-learning.

1. To unfold an in-depth knowledge and develop research of Assamese literature, language and culture by fostering multidisciplinary perspectives.
2. To promote skill and ability based systematic knowledge to the learners in related areas of literature, language and culture.
