Nobel Laureate Prof. Arthur Charles Riedacker visited Biranagana Sati Sadhani Rajyik Vishwavidyalaya.

Nobel Laureate Prof. Arthur Charles Riedacker, invited by Biranagana Sati Sadhani Rajyik Vishwavidyalaya (BSSRV), Golaghat and participated in a series of Interactive Programmes during 12th-17th November, 2025.

Prof. Arthur Charles Riedacker, co-recipient of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize, visited Birangana Sati Sadhani Rajyik Vishwavidyalaya (BSSRV), Golaghat, Assam, on 12th  November 2025 as part of his week-long visit to Golaghat and nearby areas hosted by BSSRV. A special talk and interaction programme was organised on the 12th November (Wednesday) at BSSRV, where Prof. Riedacker delivered an insightful and engaging lecture on “Biomass Production and Climate Change (Mitigation, Adaptation & Development).” The faculty members, research scholars, students, and staff of the Vishwavidyalaya provoked through his interaction, and he answered various questions in the event.

On 13 November 2025 (Thursday), another special Talk and Interaction Programme was held at the Golaghat Amateur Theatre Society Auditorium, where faculty members, students from nearby colleges and schools, social activists, and various stakeholders of the society interacted with Prof. Riedacker. Various students of schools and colleges, leaders of social organisations raised various questions in his interactions and he answered them. A cultural evening was organised in his honour, during which students of the Vishwavidyalaya presented performances showcasing the indigenous culture of Assam.

On 14 November (Friday), Prof Arthur was in the BSSRV University Campus for an interactive session with Students/Teachers of Agriculture, Environmental, Geo-informatics programmes. Prof. Arthur had enlightened how the effects of greenhouse emission and soil carbon are related to climate change and how institutions should emphasize on research to address such type of global warming issues.

On 15 November (Saturday), Prof. Arthur, accompanied by Prof. G. Singaiah, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of BSSRV, visited a Rengma village in Bogijan, located along the border area of Golaghat district. To gain a deeper understanding of the tribal community’s ecosystem and village life, Prof. Arthur engaged in meaningful interactions with the local residents and got excited by visiting horticulture crops.

On 11/11/2025, Prof. Arthur visited Kaziranga National Park, an UNESCO World Heritage site in the Golaghat District. He was deeply impressed by the natural beauty of the area and the freely roaming wildlife within the park. On 16/11/2025 (Sunday), Prof. Arthur visited Athkhelia Namghar, a significant pilgrimage site in Golaghat. He interacted with local residents to learn about Vaishnavism and the cultural ethos of Assam.

On 17/11/2025 (Monday), Prof Arthur delivered a talk on climate change and its social and geo-political aspects at around 10 AM in the BSSRV auditorium. The talk was particularly intended for students from social science and humanities background. After the talk an interactive session was held where various faculty members and students exchanged ideas with Prof Arthur.

On 17/11/2025 itself, at around 2 P.M. Prof. Riedacker specially interacted with the undergraduate students of BSSRV from B.Tech. B.Sc (Microelectronics and Semiconductor), Bachelor of Naturopathy and Yogic Science(BNYS), Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Technology(BMLT). He explained how energy consumption in using Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and data science affects climate change. Prof. Arthur also encouraged students and faculty to conduct innovative research to improve energy efficiency to reduce greenhouse emission. On 18th November Prof. Arthur left for New Delhi from Jorhat Airport.  While he came on 12th November, and when was leaving on 18th November Afternoon, all the students, scholars, staffs, officers and faculty members gave ceremonial welcome and send off with all cultural traditions and customs.
