Established in 2023, the Department of Sociology is committed to build conceptually sophisticated, empirically grounded and social, economic and politically relevant scholarship. The Department of Sociology specifically focuses on imparting M.A and Ph.D. degrees with a strong focus on achieving all the objectives stated in the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020. We invite you to explore the dynamic theoretical and empirical world of Sociology with us at the Birangana Sati Sadhini Rajyik Vishwavidyalaya.

Vision of the Department:

In the age where humanity is aspiring to inhibit mars and moon, it comes as surprise that some of our population still lacks access to basic amenities and a dignified life. In pursuit of a better world, the department of Sociology envisages to develop a critical thinking among the ignited minds of the region to understand and interrogate society and culture both at local and global contexts. By harmonising both classical and modern theories of sociology along with innovative methodological practices; the department will strive to create global citizens while focussing on their cognitive and meta-Cognitive skills.

Mission of the Department:

• To promote the intellectual development of our students and faculty in a vibrant academic environment while respecting diversity and inclusion.

• To develop a sociological imagination and a broad outlook as an essential pre-requisite to study and understand society and culture- connecting the local social issues with the global.

• Engaging with rigorous training in disciplinary theories and methodology to be linked to systems of knowledge and events transcending international borders; not limited to the social and cultural diversity and dynamics of Northeast India.

• Creation of a purposeful future for students through application of Sociological knowledge attained through interdisciplinary education, community engagement and experiential learning in an ever evolving market society.
