The Department of Chemistry at Birangana Sati Sadhani Rajyik Vishwavidyalaya is dedicated to nurturing scientifically curious, socially responsible, and research-oriented students through a multidisciplinary and future-focused approach to education. Established in the year 2023 in alignment with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the department aims to build a strong foundation in chemistry while equipping students with the broader scientific and technological skills required in modern academia, industry, and research.
Recognizing that chemistry today is deeply interconnected with other disciplines, the curriculum has been designed to encourage interdisciplinary learning. During the first two years of the programme, students are introduced not only to core branches of chemistry such as organic, inorganic, physical, and analytical chemistry, but also to complementary subjects including physics, mathematics, and computer programming. This integrated approach helps students develop analytical thinking, quantitative reasoning, and computational skills essential for scientific problem-solving.
An important feature of the department is its emphasis on scientific literature and research communication. Students are encouraged from an early stage to develop the habit of reading scientific papers and understanding recent advancements in chemistry and related fields. Scientific paper reading forms an integral part of the mordern curriculum, enabling students to become familiar with research methodologies, data interpretation, and critical scientific analysis. This exposure prepares them for higher studies, innovation-driven careers, and independent research.
The department also strongly promotes experiential learning and professional exposure. Students are guided throughout the programme to undertake internships in industries, universities, national laboratories, and reputed research institutes in India and abroad. Such opportunities help students gain practical experience, interact with researchers and professionals, and understand the real-world applications of chemistry in areas such as healthcare, materials science, pharmaceuticals, energy, and environmental sustainability.
In tune with the objectives of NEP 2020, the programme emphasizes flexibility, creativity, skill development, and experiential learning. Students are encouraged to explore the interdisciplinary connections of chemistry with biology, environmental science, and sustainable technologies, particularly in the context of the biodiversity and natural resources of North-East India.
