A two-day National level seminar titled "The Chutias of Assam: History, Ethnicity and Identity Politics" was organized by the Department of Political Science, Birangana Sati Sadhani State University, on 2nd and 3rd June in association with the IQAC, BSSRV sponsored by Chutia Jatio Gobeshana Parishad. The first day program was started with the National Anthem followed by the University Anthem. The Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor of BSSRV, Prof. G Singaiah, delivered the inaugural speech. Then, Dr. Tribedi Chutia, the HoD(i/c) Department of Political Science, BSSRV and the Shri Jyoti Prasad Chutia from Chutia Jatio Gobeshana Parishad, delivered their speech. The Keynote address was delivered by the Prof. Damburudhar Nath, former Vice-Chancellor, Majuli Cultural University. The speaker nicely elaborated the ethnic origin and the ethnic structure of chutia people and provided a comprehensive comparison of chutia with other ethnic groups. The pleanry speaker, Prof. Girin Phukan, former HOD Political Sceince, Dibrugarh University, spoke on the politics of identity of the Chutia community and the role of Chutia student organizations. The other plenary speaker, Dr. Debabrat Sharma, former Principal of Jorhat College, spoke about the struggle of the Chutia community and the presence of women in the struggle of the Chutia community. A total of 45 papers on the Chutia community were presented at the seminar from different places of India including Jawaharlall Nehru University.
